After a beautiful Arts & Crafts manor house in the Quantock Hills suffered extensive fire and water damage, the challenge was to seamlessly blend what remained of the original oak joinery with the new.
The team replaced worn balusters, treads, risers and handrails on the multi-level staircase, conserved and restored as much original oak panelling as possible in the entrance hall, dining room and drawing room, and built new joinery to match where needed. Carved overmantels were re-coloured and polished, and a partly glazed oak library was created with a hand-carved frieze.
This project took one year to complete, from initial consultation to final installation, at a cost of around £250,000.
